Dimitri, one of your most endearing qualities is your wry sense of humor. Since you are the only Russian I sorta know, I wonder if that is a national or regional characteristic or just your characteristic. Most of the "Russians" I come in contact with are in fact usually Ukrainian checkers and maids working in this uber-rico resort town. I ran into idiots when I was blogging and I never displayed your sense of fair play.Of course you are still young. It get's harder as you age to suffer fools gladly. Mark Twain had a lot of quotes dealing with the idiots in his time. One comes to mind: "Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed." Another of my favorites is from Ted Williams: "Life is hard but it's a lot harder if you're stupid." And one of our favorite cowboy sayings out here in Wyoming is: "hard tellin', not knowin'". The post from Harry Willis was splendid as are many of your reader's posts. BTW, I am actually reading a book for the second time and it's yours: The 5 stages of Collapse. In my long life I have only reread a single book:Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance. Your chapter on Political collapse is worth the price of the book many times over.
It is sad in my intelligent circle that I have found no one who has read the book and very few who know of you. such a shame. The bloggers who are worth reading are a tiny group, as are the mainstream columnists but at least they get paid. Sometimes I wonder if reading about life at the end of empire is a worthy pursuit. These are interesting times. Your observations which include a heavy dose of historical perspective are much appreciated by some of us non idiots.

I am envisioning a slightly serious-looking guy LHAO due to some private coincidence. That kind of sacrilege doesn't exist!
